Meet the Yoj Team




Candice Hilse founded Yoj in 2008 after serving as a human resources and event planning leader at one of the largest retail companies in the U.S. She refined her corporate event planning abilities and mastered the art of infusing every event with its own character.

Candice eventually discovered that event planning and production was her passion—not sitting behind a desk—and decided to focus on it full-time through Yoj. Candice most enjoys, well, everything about her job. But if she has to get specific, it's drawing inspiration and a fresh perspective from each client and challenging her team to create entirely original events. Spending time with each client and designing events around their personality and style are what make her work at Yoj so rewarding and fun.



Katherine is the type of event planner that every bride hopes for: savvy, super-organized, on time, easy to get in touch with, gracious and positive. She specializes in full service wedding design, and her pep talks usher you through the planning process from “yes” until “I do.”

A lowcountry native, Katherine lives in the same Mount Pleasant neighborhood that she grew up in! Her background in public relations and graphic design led her to the special event industry. Before joining Yoj, she ran her own event planning business, KATHERINE MILLER events, for five years. You’ll find Katherine-styled celebrations in publications like Charleston Weddings and Weddings Unveiled as well as on blogs like Style Me Pretty, Southern Weddings and The Wedding Row.

As part of the Yoj team, Katherine designs a limited number of weddings annually. If you're planning a celebration in or around Charleston, SC, she would love to be a part of making your vision come to life.



Emily was born and raised in Franklin, Pennsylvania (yes, she’s a Yankee!), where the Culinary Arts took center stage in her interests early on.  This led her to Johnson and Wales University and the magical city of Charleston.  While obtaining her degree, an externship at Charleston Place spurred her love of events, and she hasn't looked back.  She has since worked in numerous aspects of the field, most recently serving 7 years as the Catering and Events Manager for Good Food Catering and The Historic Rice Mill Building.

It was there that she honed her event skills and fell in love with organizational supplies, shrimp and grits, and especially, the joy of a memorable wedding day.  She had successfully executed close to 1,000 unique events there when she decided she’d like to be more involved in each wedding with which she had the honor to assist.  Joining the Yoj team was the perfect choice, and she has been thrilled to plan with couples from all over the country to learn their stories and create their day with them.  Her top priority is anticipating the needs of not only the bride and groom, but also the family, to ensure that the entire day surpasses their highest expectations.




Before we get to the nitty gritty, there are some things you need to know about Grace. She lives to create, she loves to design and she likes to surf (but only when the waves are small).

Grace has an extensive background in design, which is her favorite part about event coordination. Her heart lies in creating spectacular spaces that bring her clients' vision to life. While she wholeheartedly believes that she already lives and works in one of the most beautiful cities in the country, beautifying a space is what she does best. She excels at enchanting lighting, delectable food, and exclusive handmade details. From a historical home to the USS Yorktown, Grace enjoys creating the perfect environment for your event.

Grace has a multi-disciplinary approach to events because she is a multi-faceted kind of gal. She is a culinary aficionada, having worked behind the line in restaurants and hotels for years.  Her heart lies in service; she has managed, directed, and consulted with a number of nonprofits to produce fabulous events in the past. Her comprehensive knowledge of corporate events sets her apart from other planners here in Charleston.

She prides herself in finding creative solutions and anticipating her clients' needs. If Grace is planning your event, all you have to do is show up and celebrate!

Laura is the guru of keeping the Yoj studio moving and shaking.  Not only is she an office manager extroidinaire, she is here to help!  Laura works to ensure your vendors are paid, your proposals are up-to-date, and the Keurig and champagne are never out of stock.  She loves working with clients to ensure things are understandable and confirmed for the perfect day!

In addition to running this busy house, she has three amazing girls and a hubs at home, and she runs them just fine, too.
